Diary Entry 6 - Writing 1k Options

I am really glad that I managed to finally released this track. As a matter of fact, this is one of the first songs that I have ever written. 1k Options actually started out as what one might call a remake. I tried to rebuild an already existing song for a singer to make a cover version (I don’t even remember exactly what song that was...). But as it turns out, I am not very good at that. The chords, I believe, are still the same as they were in that original track. But everything else has changed completely, because the harmonics pushed me in a different direction. What’s really interesting about this is that the chords were in a completely different context to begin with. The original track had a kind of dancehall-party-vibe to it. But once played on an acoustic guitar, the mood changed completely, and that’s where the track went.

The reason I am glad that this track is finally out is that I have the feeling that I have evolved beyond it. Now don’t get me wrong, I really like it, and I am very satisfied with the end result. I think it is just the nature of things that when a lot of time goes by between conceiving the idea and finishing it, your views and skills change in the meantime.

And because of that, being able to conclude this project is very freeing.
